Most Algenist Liquid Collagen reviews will highlight the Genius Liquid Collagen as the best anti-aging defense in the Algenist line. But have you tried the Algenist Defense Ultra-light? Maybe it’s time you did.
You have probably been on the search for the perfect anti-wrinkle cream for a while. The moment you hit your forties (sometimes thirties), you have no idea when it all starts. Your skin is now drier than it was before, and you cannot for the life of you hide the wrinkles and aging lines and skin! A great diet and some lifestyle changes may slow down the progression, but you still need something to help minimize your current lines and wrinkles.
Meanwhile, the skincare industry is banking on your need for a miracle by promising you a quick fix. Do not fall for that. While genuine anti-aging may reduce the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles, they cannot do this overnight. The same way it took time for aging signs to show, is the same way it will take some months to make them less visible.
There’s probably also nothing you want more than all the lines to disappear. I know that because I am going through the same thing! It is very easy to get tangled in the sales web. Imagine if a product could eliminate all your aging signs? Wouldn’t that be amazing?
Unfortunately, as you get older, you cannot eliminate all signs of aging. Don’t let manufacturers or salespeople trick you into believing that their products can. The best that anti-aging products can do is prevent the fast development of more lines and wrinkles while improving the appearance of those you already have.
Which brings us to the Algenist Liquid Collagen review – as an avid user, I can testify to the wonders that this brand works on my skin. From the extensive research I conducted on the Algenist brand, their core ingredients come from algae. Admittedly, when it comes to the discoveries and the bioscience involved in Algenist, Sephora went all out!
Alguronic acid and microalgae oil are the main reasons why the algae plant has impressive regenerative abilities, and Algenist scientists found a way to introduce the same regenerative powers into your daily cream and serum. Though there are other ingredients used in the Algenist line of products, these two are their key ingredients.
The microalgae oil provides you with intense hydration to keep your skin constantly moisturized. For aged skin that needs a collagen boost, the Alguronic acid encourages new skin cell growth and elimination of the old skin cells.
So, between the Algenist Genius Liquid Collagen, and the Algenist Sublime Defense Ultra-light moisturizer, how do you know which product is the best for you? Let’s have a look at the pros and cons of both inventions.
Product Description
Most of the Algenist products are created to work together. Though it isn’t a rule, using them together and as directed, improves your chances of more success. Should you use these two together? Or is one choice enough for your needs?
Algenist GENIUS Liquid Collagen
In this 30 ml bottle, the GENIUS liquid collagen holds thousands of Microalgae beads for ultimate hydration. Before committing to the full Algenist experience, this was my first test drive. Using one full dropper in the morning and another in the evening, I was ready for any disappointments.
In two weeks, I noticed my skin was smoother but the wrinkles around my eyes and mouth were still prominent. The third bottle in, my face was plumper, and the deep lines and wrinkles were a little more filled up. They were much less visible!
While using a single Algenist product at a time is still great for your skin, my skin feels a couple of times more amazing when I add one or two more. For example, I use the Algenist cleanser and vitamin C serum along with the Liquid Collagen.
Pros
- Vegan-friendly
- Highest concentration of active collagen
- More hydration
- Absorbs fast
Cons
- High-end product

Algenist SUBLIME DEFENSE Ultra Lightweight Defense Fluid
This particular Sublime Defense Fluid comes in a 30 ml bottle. A major difference from the GENIUS liquid collagen was that this liquid comes with sunscreen with an SPF of 50. I love walking out in the summer, so this was a definite pick to try out.
Combine the sunscreen with Alguronic acid, and you have a product that will protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays at all times. Though not what I would consider a moisturizer, you can use it over your moisturizer and under your makeup. This way, you can protect your skin from premature aging from sun damage.
Like with many genuine anti-aging products, using other few additional products can go a long way. For the DEFENSE Liquid, I most definitely needed some moisturizer to go with it. For more hydration, you should consider the Algenist Sublime Defense Anti-Aging Blurring Moisturizer.
Pros
- Protection from UV rays
- Feels light even under makeup
- Cheaper
Cons
- Less moisturizing properties

What To Consider When Choosing An Anti-Aging Product
Most of the time, we think we know the exact anti-aging product we want – you think you’ll walk into the store, find and one, and walk out happily. Right? Wrong. You walk in and somehow you end up lost between the endless shelves of products. No matter where you go, the attendants always have a suggestion for you. To make the right choice, have a look at the main things to check before buying that package:
First Things First – Hydration
Sure, the older you get, the closer you are to a couple more wrinkles. However, that doesn’t mean the progression is always fast and sudden. In most situations, you can reduce the amount of wrinkles you get and slow the process down a bit. This is where your levels of hydration come to play.
A good moisturizer goes a long way in keeping your skin hydrated. You may want to stop smoking and drinking and improve your diet instead. Cut off your unhealthy food and include more fruits and vegetables – and take lots of water.
For the hot summer days when you are out in the sun, never forget your sunscreen. Harmful UV rays are responsible for skin damage in a huge part of the population, leading to premature skin aging. Use your moisturizer along with your sunscreen, and you will prevent more lines and wrinkles from making their way to your face.
Expert Opinion
Depending on the severity of your skin condition, your dermatologist may prescribe an anti-aging cream for you – like if you need higher levels of retinol in your cream. In other cases, they can tell you what to look out for in a cream. If your cream causes stinging, burning, an allergic reaction or acne, you should talk to your dermatologist.
Any dermatologist will tell you to choose a product made for your skin. The label on the package should tell you what you need to know. For example, some labels read, ‘For Dry Skin’ or ‘For Sensitive Skin.’ Ensuring that an anti-aging cream is right for your skin type may prevent acne breakout or unpleasant reactions.
Also, avoid using multiple anti-aging products at once, and follow the directions given. When the appearance of lines and wrinkles improves, continue using the cream or serum as regularly as you do. If going for anti-aging eye cream, don’t forget to talk to your ophthalmologist for advice – especially if you have any eye problems.
Ingredients
Apart from Alguronic acid and microalgae oil that helps speed up your skin cell growth, there are other key ingredients in anti-aging products. Retinoids and vitamin C are antioxidants that are amazing for your skin. They protect your skin from sun damage while boosting your collagen levels.
Peptides are present in lots of anti-aging creams, moisturizers, and serums. They can help heal wounds, minimize the visibility of stretch marks and wrinkles. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid will provide your skin with more hydration, which prevents dry and thirsty skin that contributes to lines and wrinkles.
How To Use Algenist Products
The best way to benefit from anti-aging products is by maintaining the directed regimen. Considering their extensive line, here is an easy guide to using the Algenist products:
- Use the cleanser in the morning and evening – before your daily activities and before bed
- Apply the day cream in the morning and the night cream in the evening
- You can apply the moisturizer or serum under the cream or your makeup depending on your preference and whether it feels heavy on your face
Conclusion
Multiple anti-aging lines of products are expensive, and most of us assume that high-end products always work. Though some may help, the cost is not a determining factor to how well a cream, moisturizer, or serum will work for you. Most brands will tell you to use lots of their merchandise together. While it can improve your odds at beating the lines and wrinkles, do not break your bank while at it! Pick one essential product and stick with it.
