NutraStim vs HairMax Review – Picking the Right Laser Comb for You

There’s a lot to say about laser combs and brushes. There are varying reviews on the effectiveness of these hair growth options, and it’s only fair to admit that results will always depend on the individual. This NutraStim vs HairMax review highlights my general experience with two popular brands in the market.

I’ve had healthy hair for as long as I can remember. My mom and her siblings had great hair growing up as well; I could see from all the pictures we’d look at every once in a while. However, I learned that alopecia ran in our genes after a few uncles and aunts older than my mom started balding or noticing receding hairlines. Doing my research on the laser treatments available, I found a NutraStim vs HairMax review that encouraged me to try them out.

Since my mom was the youngest, I figured it could’ve been a reason she hadn’t noticed extensive hair loss yet (she had me while she was young!). There was a little thinning and more hair shedding than usual though. After further studies, I realized that we still had a chance to save her hair. You may know that preventing balding is way better than trying to cure it – curing often doesn’t work.

NutraStim Laser Comb

One great thing about laser combs is having a smaller size than laser helmets and caps. The NutraStim Comb is slim and easy to hold while in use. The teeth are slightly different than those of regular combs, but they part the hair efficiently to reach the scalp where needed.

How to use

You only need to use NutraStim for 8 minutes three times a week – definitely better than daily use. The low-level light therapy from the 12 lasers stimulates the blood flow beneath your scalp down to the roots, and you can expect visible changes in the fourth to the sixth month.

Precautions

Always keep the laser comb away from children, sinks, heated surfaces, and water. Also, avoid using it if it is faulty – they can cause electrical shock.

Pros

  • Portable and lightweight
  • FDA-cleared
  • Cheaper
  • Safe and drug-free

Cons

  • The teeth don’t part the hair that well
  • Results took longer

HairMax Laser Comb

My mom enjoyed the sleeker HairMax design. She found it pretty light and easy to support while passing through your scalp. The teeth were also more pronounced than those in NutraStim, and they parted the hair much more efficiently.

How to use

Like the instructions suggested, she would pass the comb slowly and gently over the desired areas and lingering for four seconds before moving on to the next spot (about half an inch every four seconds).

Precautions

Like with most laser devices, avoid using HairMax near water or in the bathroom. Do not stare directly at the beams when in session.

Pros

  • Nice sleek design for grasp
  • FDA-approved
  • Quicker results
  • Timing and battery charge on the screen
  • Light and portable

Cons

  • Slightly more expensive

Recommendation

Though HairMax is somewhat more costly than NutraStim, I suggest HairMax for better quality and faster results of the two.
