In a beauty industry that has both the genuine and the scams, it can be tough finding the best eye cream product for you. This Rodan and Fields eye cream review is here to guide you on what you need to know before you invest in an eye cream brand.
Did you know a huge chunk of the population battles tired-looking eyes every morning (and evening)? Unsurprisingly, a lot of it has to do with our work schedules and the little amount of shut-eye time we get. My work involves early hours and occasional late evenings – I also don’t shy from squeezing in fun activities on some nights when I can.
My name is Jess. I have had my fair share of unsightly looking eyes, and I will tell you how I dealt with it. All without resorting to too many layers of eye makeup.
Wrinkles and lines around the eyes, crow’s feet, and puffy or dark eyes give you a look like you haven’t slept in ages. Even when you aren’t exhausted, the dull look says otherwise, making it seem like you are older than your actual age. Old age, genetics, and lifestyle habits are enormous contributing factors towards these symptoms.
Fortunately, you can minimize the appearance of whichever problem that afflicts you in massive doses. More than a few individuals deal with two or more issues at once. The good news is, with the right eye cream and lifestyle changes, you can improve your eyes’ appearance.
I have no qualms with less than six hours of sleep. If I’m honest, I am very active and figure I could do so much while awake! My eyes seem to disagree though. In my thirties, the skin around my eyes would have you think I am in my late forties. At least that is when I haven’t covered it all up with loads of makeup.
I have known about eye creams for the longest time. I just didn’t think I would be in my early thirties by the time I needed them. I couldn’t walk out of my apartment without a touch of makeup around my eyes – not even for a packet of milk! It was time I talked to my best friend. Maybe she was right in dabbling in as less makeup as possible and finding healthy solutions for her skin.
She had always used one brand that worked wonders for her – and her Rodan and Fields eye cream results were visible from afar and up-close. The cream helped her minimize crow’s feet (she laughs a lot), and prevent new lines and wrinkles from forming. Even better, the product decreased any promising dark circles around her eyes. I had a genuine review right in front of me; I had to test it out.
It has been an interesting journey (over a year now) since I started using the Rodan and Fields Multifunction eye cream. My results have been awesome to say the least – which is why I prepared this Rodan and Fields eye cream review for anyone else looking for a solution to their eye woes. I have used a couple of other products in my curiosity, and I will review them too.
Depending on your preferences, there are all types of anti-aging eye products. Most of us familiar with eye creams but there are gels, serums, and balms. For the best results, make sure you have a look at the ingredients. Not only does that help you find the elements that will rejuvenate your skin, but it also enables you to notice any contents that may be harmful or harsh on your skin.
Rodan and Fields Multi-function Eye Cream
I always treat any new skincare product I purchase with utmost caution. Call it suspicion until proven guilty, or innocent. Though this particular eye cream had worked for my friend, results tend to vary with individuals in the cosmetic world. After having a look at the listed Rodan and Fields eye cream ingredients, I decided it was well worth the try.
I had to dig a little deep into my purse for the Rodan and Fields Multifunction eye cream. When the small 15ml tub arrived, a small part of me was not interested in making another purchase if the first one failed. Fortunately, though it did look like a tiny amount, you only need it for the area around your eyes. That is enough to make it last a while.
With the dark under eyes, wrinkles, and laugh lines (as I like to call them) around my eyes, I was hoping that my experiment would change something. If not minimize all my issues, at least reduce the appearance of one. Most of the Rodan and Fields eye cream reviews I’d gone over showed lots of satisfied users, and I was banking on my satisfaction. If I was pleasantly surprised at the notable difference after three weeks, then I was overjoyed at the end of the second month.
You know you are on the right track when your friends and colleagues want in on your new youthful look. My crow’s feet were fewer and the skin around my eyes was tighter. I didn’t even mind that the cream didn’t do as much as I expected for the dark circles. I had some excellent results, and that was enough for me to purchase my second jar.
- Does not irritate sensitive skin – especially since the skin around your eyes is fragile
- Great moisturization for dry and parched skin
- Easily absorbing cream
- Impressive reduction of lines and wrinkles around your eyes
- Minimal changes for the dark spots around my eyes

Some days you run into products you really want to try out. The L’Oreal Revitalift was it for me – or at least, one of the few products I’ve come across that I couldn’t leave behind. If I could find a product that could multitask on all my eye-skin problems, I’d be the happiest woman alive. The L’Oreal brand has plenty of other attractive skincare products, but my rule is shopping for what I need the most.
Seeing that the Revitalift eye cream was dermatologist and ophthalmologist-approved, I felt assured I had a safe product in my hands; it was time to test it out. The 14ml tub is quite small, about 4 cm in height, but I’d learned not to judge by the size first. It was affordable after all. I had the instructions on the back of the tub.
Every morning, after cleansing my face and patting dry, I would dab a small amount of the Revitalift cream around my eyes and massage until it was fully absorbed. I would repeat the same application in the evening, right before bed. For even better results, make sure you apply it under your makeup and moisturizers.
A month was over before I noticed any results. The wrinkles and lines around my eyes were not as visible as they were before. By the time I had used up all the cream, I still saw no changes with the dark circles around my eyes.
- Fewer lines and wrinkles
- No fragrances in the ingredients
- No changes for the dark eye circles
- Even with the little amount, sometimes the tub isn’t full
- Ingredients contain parabens and alcohol

It is not every day you’ll find an anti-aging eye cream that acts as a concealer as well. The Tatcha Pearl Illuminated is a 2-in-1 formula that covers the dark eye circles while minimizing the wrinkles around your eyes. The combination of natural ingredients acts to give you a fresher and hydrated look.
Akoya Pearl extract combined with niacinamide addresses your lines, pigmentation, and overall darkness around your eyes. By reducing hyperpigmentation and boosting collagen production, you can have the area around your eyes brightened and much firmer. Silk powder hides any imperfections while protecting the thin skin from the side effects of harsh makeup and environmental exposure.
Hadasei-3 is a group of Japanese superfoods that have anti-aging properties. Couple that with the hyaluronic acid in the Tatcha Pearl Illuminated cream and a fuller and nourished look could be within your reach. Following the instructions, I dabbed a rice-grain size amount under either eye and applied it gently like a moisturizer. There wasn’t much to it, and it indeed concealed my imperfections during my work and out occasions.
Sometimes I’d take a while getting the product to settle for good coverage, but when it does stay, it looks natural. There are different colors you can pick depending on your skin tone and preferences. However, apart from being a great concealer, I did not get the results that I was expecting. After a month, I still had my dark under eye and lines to deal with every time I cleansed my face.
- Amazing concealer
- Different shades to choose from
- Non-comedogenic and non-irritating
- No parabens, phthalates, sulfates, or fragrances
- Slightly expensive
- Didn’t help any of my initial eye issues

Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic eye cream
There is always a sense of assurance when a doctor is involved in the creation of a product that you have your eyes on. The Ferulic acid + retinol eye cream by Dr. Dennis Gross promises to put in the work on your fine lines and wrinkles. All while being gentle on the delicate area around your eyes.
Retinol is a significant ingredient in many anti-aging products. It has a fantastic way of boosting cell production and encouraging younger-looking skin. Though that is a huge benefit, high amounts of retinol in your cream can dry out your skin, irritating you in some cases. Make sure you get the right levels of retinol in your skincare products.
It doesn’t stop at the retinol and ferulic acid. The unique ECG Complex consists of collagen, ellagic acid, and gallic acid that firm your skin and reduce any puffiness you may have. These features also trap the moisture in, keeping your eye area hydrated and fuller while preventing the formation of more lines.
Like with most eye creams, you get the best results when you apply twice a day. Unless your eye cream is labeled a ‘night cream’ or instructed to apply once, morning and evening are the best times to use anti-aging eye products. Always remember to cleanse your face before application.
My results came with some side effects. The wrinkles and lines around my eyes were not as visible – all while barely two weeks on the cream. Unfortunately, it seemed the sunburn alert that came with the package was for individuals like me. I was sure the AHA (alpha hydroxyl acid) in the cream was responsible for the increased sensitivity around my eyes, so I had to stop my use of the ferulic eye cream.
- Fewer wrinkles around the eyes in a short period
- Minimized puffiness and dark circles
- Lightweight and easily absorbent
- Sunburn alert and risk to sensitive skin
- Dry-feeling skin
- Expensive for a small amount

Shaba Complex Eye Serum anti-aging wrinkles
Drunk Elephant does not just have an unusual name – they have great skincare products as well. The Shaba Complex Eye Serum is among them, and it targets wrinkles, fine lines, and dark circles around your eyes. From my research, they avoid using fragrances, dyes, drying alcohols, and suspicious ingredients that would harm your skin. I had to give them a shot.
First thing I noticed after opening my package and taking a whiff – the serum didn’t have any fragrances. I gathered it was the unique marula oil, glycerin base, and vitamins combined with fruit enzymes they pointed out on their website. Niacinamide and edelweiss stem cells work together to hydrate the skin around your eyes and minimize wrinkles and fine lines. Not to forget the high levels of copper peptides and black tea ferment that also encourage firmness in your eye area.
What about the fatigued look you can’t seem to avoid? The eyebags and dark under eyes always make you seem dull and probably older than you are. Strong antioxidants in the Shaba Complex eye serum protect your skin from environmental aging factors while helping minimize those that you already have.
- Amazing hydration
- Minimal lines and wrinkles – a general plumper appearance
- May help with age spots
- Non-greasy and suitable for sensitive skin
- My bottle’s nozzle often clogged up creating an unpleasant mess or blockage
- Didn’t do much for my dark undereye

Most of us go product-shopping without figuring out what our skin needs the most. Dry skin, dark circles, puffiness, lines, and wrinkles have their specific causes. Knowing what afflicts you goes a long way in helping you select the best product for your situation.
What To Consider When Looking For Your Eye Cream
Any Rodan and Fields eye cream review may give you a low down on all the fabulous eye products out there, but a good review will highlight the importance in seeking medical advice. The skin around your eyes is sensitive. Also, depending on what causes the eye problems you have, your dermatologist may tell you more of which ingredients you may need in your eye cream or serum.
Your ophthalmologist may also have a say in the matter. You don’t have to own a pair of glasses or have serious eye trouble to learn more about what you can do to keep your eyes safe. He or she may give you tips on symptoms to check when your eye product is doing more harm than good.
Benzyl and ethyl alcohols, sulfates, fragrances, and silicones are some of the chemicals that do more harm than good for your skin in general. The skin around your eyes is thinner and delicate. Not only would they irritate your eye area, but they would also make any issue you are trying to minimize much worse.
Some of the best active ingredients in your anti-aging eye cream are retinoids and peptides. By boosting collagen production in your skin, they encourage more new cells while getting rid of the old cells that are responsible for the dull look you are sporting. However, they have their differences.
Retinoids are most useful in your night cream. Once you are out in the sunlight, retinoids break down and are not as effective as they should be on your skin. This is where peptides come in – instead of a retinol-based cream for your daytime activities, pick one with peptides. They can stand the harsh glare of the sun.
Pro tip: High levels of retinoids can be harsh on your skin, creating inflammation and peeling. You may need your dermatologist for a prescription for higher doses of retinol. It all depends on your skin condition. Either way, peptides, and retinoids diminish lines and wrinkles when used as directed.
Moisturizing compounds like hyaluronic acid and niacinamide hydrate your skin by locking in the moisture, preventing dry skin that encourages wrinkles and lines, and plumping out your skin.
Antioxidants also boost skin-cell production while protecting the skin around your eyes from sun damage. Though the presence of sunscreen can interfere with some ingredients, some manufacturers find a way to incorporate sunscreen into their products without compromising the rest of the contents.
If you do not know your skin type by now, you may not be giving your skin what it needs. For oily skin, water-based products are great, also those with salicylic acid. For dry and sensitive skin, an oil-based product could help you, but you may also need to go for very low levels of retinol to avoid sensitivity or dryness. Make up for it with high levels of antioxidants.
The Product Itself
The overall presentation of the product may determine how useful it may be for you. Start with the packaging. From jars and bottles to tubes, exposure to the environment may affect the integrity of your favorite eye cream. I’d suggest selecting the squeeze and pump tubes.
Each time you open your jar or bottle, you expose ingredients like retinol to the light and air, making them deteriorate with each use. Let’s not forget dipping your finger into the jar every time increases the risks of dirt and creating a mess that takes the refreshing look away from your cream.
All creams and serums range from light to downright heavy – like castor oil heavy or honey-like heavy. Obviously, it all depends on your skin and your preference. If you have oily skin, you will probably perk up at the thought of a fast-absorbing cream.
For dry and sensitive skin, a more substantial cream may feel better, especially when you know you will spend a considerable amount of time outdoors. One individual’s heavy and greasy cream could be another individual’s relief!
How To Use Your Eye Cream
The process is relatively straightforward. Mostly, you have to cleanse your face before your Rodan and Fields eye cream application. Another important tip that is often missed in many Rodan and Fields eye cream reviews – apply your cream beneath your makeup, it helps the contents seep into your skin for effectiveness.
For most eye creams, twice-a-day application after cleansing is best. To keep it safe, make sure you read the instructions before you start.
Purchasing any cream, lotion or skincare product (not just your eye cream) can feel like a tricky affair. It is always tempting to believe that an expensive product can, and must work. That is not always the case. If you don’t pay your dermatologist a visit, do all the research there is on your intended product and find as many Rodan and Fields eye cream reviews as you can. Learn what other users have to say about their experience and you will have more insight than you had at the start!
